yup, with that tail, he's definitely part husky. (from someone with 2 dogs: a GSD mix and a siberian husky). that tail is definitely husky. The backend scent? probably GSD.
Mishka is a 7 year old shepherd mix who was left, by some human idiot, tied to a tree in the Bronx when he was a pup. The city picked him up and the clock started running on his life at the city animal control shelter, where animals are put down if not adopted within a short amount of time. Because he appearred adoptable, he was taken in by Bide-a-Wee, a no-kill animal shelter, to be kept until adopted.
I found him in June 2002 at which point he was estimated to be between 9-12 months of age. I adopted him in a NY minute from Bide-a-wee even though he was a complete nutcase. He had issues with hats, stairs, doors, wheels, umbrellas, vitamin bottles, bobby pins, tax returns - you name it. He was mouthy and my vet said I wouldn't be able to keep him if I couldn't get him to stop mouthing.
I called in a trainer. Over the six years that we've been together we've worked with three trainers and we've taken three different classes. Mishka and I have passed the Delta Society's Pet Partners test and we make weekly visits to people in need of animal contact.
Although people are often frightened by his looks, he has never bitten anything and is not aggressive. Some people who haven't studied dogs, misinterpret his enthusiasm or frustration as aggression. We would not have passed the rigorous Pet Partners test if he had aggressive tendencies.
I think he is part shepherd, part husky, and part Weimeraner. He has webbed feet, which huskies and shepherds do not so he must be part water dog. DNA testing has shown some Chow waaaay back in his lineage. I often refer to him as the Tasmanian Pig Herder because people love to dream.
